“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 NKJV
We are referred to in John as the branch. Jesus said “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit.” Our goal is to be as close to Jesus as the branches are to the vine. That we would be an extension of Christ like the branches are an extension of the vine. For It to be impossible to tell where one starts and the other ends.
The branch remains connected to the vine at all times. Not just in the season it is bearing fruit. It’s not like the branches are kept in a safe place by the gardener until the season he needs fruit and then he pulls out the branches and glues them onto the vine in hopes that it will produce. It doesn’t work that way.
Why do we live our lives that way? So often we try to connect with Jesus when we need to produce fruit. We live detached from the vine and want to re-attach when it’s convenient. God challenges us to stay so connected to the vine that when people look at our lives they can’t tell where we end and Christ begins.
