He may not always be likable but He’s always loving. Don’t get caught thinking that just because God is loving He has to be likable. He is our loving Father and He loves us. But that does not require Him to be likable.
There are parents whose main objective is to be likable, their primary desire is to make their child happy. Parents that want to be liked, hope their kids will have a favorable opinion of them all the time. To make sure the kids opinion stays the same, they give their kids whatever they want, whenever they want it.
God is our Father and does not parent this way. He is not concerned about His popularity. In order for parents to show love to their children, sometimes it requires them to be unlikeable.
Sometimes loving means saying no, even if your kids are kicking, screaming, and yelling for their way. Sometimes loving your child means you take something away from them that is bad for them, even when they don’t fully understand how dangerous the object is they are playing with. Sometimes loving your child means you disciplining them, even though it is hard to follow through and it’s harder on you to give it then it is for them to receive it.
Maybe you are looking at your life right now and you don’t like what God is doing. It’s going to be okay. He is more concerned about how much He loves you than how much you like Him.
“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son.”
Remember God disciplines those that He accepts as His son. Be encouraged.
