“When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the LORD called to Moses from within the cloud.” Exodus 24:15-16
I think many people get confused when it comes to knowing God’s will. To often we think it is a streamlined, swift, and precise process.
We think that as soon as we pray we will know exactly what we are supposed to do. We fast hoping the answer will magically come to us before we skip the last meal of the first day. We randomly open the Bible in hopes of finding what it is God wants from us.
Sometimes it happens this way. It’s just not a common occurrence. Usually God’s will is found amongst the clouds.
Moses went up the mountain to get the law from God. He was interested in discovering God’s will and God wanted him to know it even more. It says that Moses just sat there. God finally spoke to him, but it was six days later.
I hope that offers some comfort for those who have not yet discovered God will. Often times it takes time to ascertain. Cloudy skies may be where you find His commands. If God has spoken to you clearly then great. Be thankful for those times. Respond with immediate obedience. For those of you who are still unsure just know that you might spend days, months, or even years in the clouds.
Don’t head down the mountain too quick. God has a Word for you. You’re not alone. God was on the mountain with Moses every day he was up there.
God will speak to you. He wants you to know His will more than you do. It’s just most often on His time table.
