“If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons.”
So many hate the word discipline, what it stands for, or the connotation it so often is labeled with. In this scripture it assures our legitimacy as a child of God. Yet it’s been tainted. We are no longer comfortable talking about or embracing any form of discipline which comes from God.
The only form of discipline we are comfortable with is self discipline. Some examples would be: Dieting, working out, shopping less, breaking bad habits, forming good habits, etc.
The discipline that will get people uptight is the type that calls our actions, motives, or lifestyle into question. We think things like: Am I not a good person? Why is God out to get me? Why can’t He be happy with who I am? Does He have some sort of score to settle? Why is He so angry all the time?
If you have given your life to Christ and you are a follower of His there is no longer any wrath left for you. The only thing left is God’s discipline, within the confines of His love.
If you are experiencing His discipline now, don’t be angry or fearful. You should be more concerned if your not. God does not hate you, He loves you and wants you to return to Him.
