“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.”
Did you know that God made you the guardian of your own heart. The definition of guardian is: “A defender, protector, or keeper.”
We are responsible to guard it against discouragement, pride, doubt, insecurity, jealousy, and distraction. Tend to it, defend it, guard it with all the zeal you can muster up. Solomon wrote this proverb not in the form of a request but as a challenge. Will we rise to the occasion? Will we step up to the duty? Will we see the need and do all that is possible to meet it?
We guard the heart because it is “the wellspring of life.” If we are apathatic in our duty, if we do not rise to the occasion, we run the risk of the wellspring becoming contaminated. It flows in and pours out of us, bringing life to us and all those we are connected to.
Does your heart, your wellspring, bring life to you and others? Is your heart, your wellspring contaminated?
DEFEND IT! Lord keep me humble before you. Lord continue the work you started in me. Lord touch and heal my heart so that I might be a representative, a reflection of who you are. Lord strengthen me to defend my heart from it’s most current beat to the last. Make my heart beat in rhythm with yours.
