A Time For Rest

“God ended His work…and He rested.” Genesis 2:2 (NKJV)

If you treat your work better than you treat yourself, you might not be able to finish what you started.” If you want your work to matter, allow there to be down time. If you look at how the greats fell, it’s most often because they didn’t understand the importance of rest! In Genesis it says: “God ended His work…and He rested.” So if God must rest, why do we feel it’s not important for us?

There are two main reasons I feel people do not rest:

Firstly, I believe people reach for goals God never gave them to reach for. Jesus said, “My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:30 NKJV). When you find your work too hard or too heavy, you need to ask yourself, “Did God really call me to this?” It never destroys your health, your peace of mind or your family when you are living in His will.

Second reason people never rest is because of their loss of perspective. Their priorities get out of line. They say, “I’m doing this for my family.” Always remember that your family would rather have more of you.

If you feel guilty about taking a break, you probably have a problem, and you need to change your thinking. In Psalms it says: “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures…He restoreth my soul” (Psalms 23:2-3). Physical, emotional, and Spiritual rejuvenation begins with rest. Take time for rest. Stop thinking you are lazy, pathetic, or irresponsible when you do.
