Genesis 1:1-3, 26-28 New King James Version (NKJV)
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
I recently read that when it comes to art, “the artist only has 50% of responsibility in creation.” So I can only assume the writer is insinuating that the person engaging with the art has the other 50%.
In each case, the artist is only responsible for 50% of the transaction. How the person engages with the art is entirely up to that person. And it’s not something that any of us can control. Some people will respond positively. Some negatively. It is ultimately their choice.
In the scripture above we learn that God is the creator (50%) and He has given us dominion over His creation (50%). So, God created it and some of us will respond positively to His creation and some of us won’t.
I can’t control what God does with His 50%. I can only control what I do with mine. So I will give a 100% of the 50% I am responsible for because, after all, how could I give any less.
